Nominate a Community Codebreaker

Do you know someone doing incredible work in your community?

We need your help to shape a dynamic new public art project for Bletchley. Codes were broken by a remarkable network of collective talent and ingenuity and we want to celebrate the Bletchley Park and Alan Turing legacies in a fresh, creative and inclusive way.

We are on the lookout for a collective of ‘Community Codebreakers’ to support the development of a brief for this future facing, innovative public celebration.

How do I nominate?

To nominate someone brilliant (it can be yourself!) please fill in this simple form.

What is a Community Codebreaker?

A Community Codebreaker is someone making a difference in your community - for example this could be your neighbourhood, street, school, workplace, voluntary sports team or favourite local shop.

Brilliance and innovation come in many different forms and are found in all corners of a town. If you know someone doing transformative work to support people and champion Bletchley’s diverse communities - from education to sport, science to mental health, cooking and more - nominate them!

You can nominate yourself, or someone you know. They must live, work, study or volunteer in Bletchley or the MK1, MK2 and MK3 postcodes. Under 18’s who are nominating or being nominated must have the consent and involvement of their parent or carer.

If you have any questions about the proces, please email  communitycodebreakers@gmail.com

What will they do?

The selected Community Codebreakers will be part of a small group who will work together to develop a future facing public art commission brief for Bletchley.

Chosen Codebreakers should be available for:

  • Introduction meeting: A short meeting at 5pm on 10 January 2023 for introductions, where we will give more information on the process and answer questions. Following this, we will invite the Community Codebreakers to extend the invitation to individuals in their communities to join them and attend Enigma Day on 16 January.
  • Enigma Day: a workshop on 16 January at Bletchley Library, 10.30am - 2:30pm. More information on Enigma Day can be found below.
  • There may be some further commitment opportunities following Enigma Day for Community Codebreakers who are able to and interested in having a legacy role in the commissioning process.

The chosen Community Codebreakers will be paid the National Living Wage for their time (approx. 6 hours in total) and will receive a free annual pass for Bletchley Park. Simple lunch and refreshments will be provided at Enigma Day. Access support can be provided.

Nominate yourself or someone you know now

Nominations close at 5:00pm on Tuesday 2 January 2023.

Selected Community Codebreakers will be notified by 6 January 2023

Enigma Day is an opportunity to take part in the development of creating the commissioning artists brief, led by a team of art professionals working with Milton Keynes Council and the selected group of Community Codebreakers. The half day event will offer an insight into public art commissioning, and act as an open forum to help develop the creative brief for this exciting new work. There are no special skills or artistic knowledge required, this is about your local connection and stories.

Together we will collectively explore imaginative ideas, discussing the contemporary and future relevance of Alan Turing and Bletchley Park, suitable locations, different types of artistic practice, and relevant themes including digital innovation, computing and challenging oppression and LGBTQ+ stereotypes. This is a great opportunity to gain new skills, meet new people and help us share Bletchley’s internationally significant story with the world - while keeping it rooted to the community and the people who live, work and study here today.

Enigma Day is open for members of the public to attend. Registration is free but places must be booked in advance by filling in this form. Participants will receive refreshments and a simple lunch.

Enigma Day will take place on Monday 16 January at Bletchley Library, 10:30am - 2:30pm
