Positive changes are coming to Aylesbury Street and Queensway
Aylesbury Street and Queensway Public Realm Improvement project is one of seven Town Deal projects we are delivering in Bletchley and Fenny Stratford as part of the Town Deal Programme. The aims of this project are as follows:
-
Improve the attractiveness of the high streets to help increase footfall in the areas, encouraging businesses to locate to and invest in.
-
Make road crossings safer.
-
Support active travel.
-
Increase parking and awareness of carparks
-
Prevent anti-social parking.
-
Upgrade existing carparks.
-
Upgrade signage and lighting.
-
Promote greener, healthier streets.
The plan of Aylesbury Street (see downloadable plan at the bottom of this page) shows the proposed improvements which include new planting, street furniture, signage, and safety improvements to road crossings at: Denmark Street, Eden Crescent, George Street and Church Street as well as the two existing crossings on Aylesbury Street. We’ll be starting this work towards the end of June and will last about 6-8 weeks.
The changes to Queensway are coming in late summer/early Autumn. As you can see on the Queensway plan (see downloadable plan at the bottom of this page), it will become a one-way street from Albert Street through to Elizabeth Square. After the Bletchley Big Street Eat in July, we will introduce measures that will simulate the new road layout.
The scheme includes better signage, improved lighting, playful street furniture and safety improvements to road crossings at Oxford Street, Bedford Street, Cambridge Street, Westfield Road, and Brooklands Road. There will be three crossings on Queensway – so you are never more than 60 metres from a crossing, and these will be raised to assist those with mobility issues as well as being a traffic calming measure.
The aspiration is for Queensway to become a more enjoyable place to visit and spend time as well as attracting businesses to move to the area bringing a broader retail offer.

All the Town Deal projects are a result of hours of public consultation, research and testing. The schemes have been regularly scrutinised by the Town Deal Board, the Town Deal Advisory Group, Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council, West Bletchley Parish Council, Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Ward Councillors and the many Residents’ Associations.
The Town Deal team at Milton Keynes City Council continues to work closely with these stakeholders to ensure we meet our original Town Deal objectives and deliver long-term, sustainable improvements to the community.
Come and find out more about whats happening and when. We’re always keen to talk about the Town Deal.
